The US government shutdown that began on 1-October-2025 has finally ended after 40 days. 8 Democrats voted with Republicans to re-open thé government after Republicans agreed on a future vote to extend subsidies on the Affordable Care Act.This has been the longest shutdown in American history.

The shutdown began due to disagreements on a budget between Republicans and Democrats. Democrats wanted subsidies on the Affordable Care Act to be continued, Republicans didn’t.

There was 60 total votes in favour of opening the government and 40 against it.

Soon people will should be able to start getting their fully funded food stamps due to the reopening of the government.

Due to the US government shutdown which began on 1-October-2025, up to 42 million Americans might not receive food stamps. 12.5% of America's population receives food stamps called SNAP benefits.

The government shut down due to Republicans and Democrats disagreeing on budget contents. They need to agree on a budget to re-open the government.

The US government shut down at midnight 1-October-2025. During the shut down non-essential government services are stopped, federal agencies stop activities, and a large number of federal workers are furloughed.

The reason for the shutdown is there isn't enough votes supporting the spending bill which was written by Republicans, the party in power. Democrats want some changes, they are calling for an extension of tax credits that make health insurance cheaper for millions of Americans - which are set to expire - and for a reversal of cuts to Medicaid that have been made by Trump. Democrats also oppose spending cuts to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and National Institutes of Health (NIH).

While Donald Trump has made it more difficult for American companies to employ high-skilled foreign workers using the H-1B visa by imposing a $100,000 fee on the employer, China has introduced a K Visa.

China's K Visa is designed to recruit young workers from around the world who have degrees in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics).

Big Beautiull Bill (@Politics Patrick) [2025-07-01 16:40:54] (ID: 86)

Donald Trump's "One Big Beautiful Bill Act" has now passed the senate.
This is a step closer for it becoming law.

The Bill makes permanent Donald Trump's tax cuts from 2017 and reduces the number of people who receive Medicare. Economists believe that it will add 4.5T$ to the US debt.

The bill now needs to go to the House of Representatives where it is expected to be approved. After that President Donald Trump can sign it into law.

Donald Trump's Election (@Politics Dude) [2024-11-08 20:33:24] (ID: 10)

Who is Donald Trump's election good for in terms of the economy?

In his first term he lowered taxes for the rich which made him and other rich people richer while the debt grew by 7 trillion dollars due to lower tax revenue,
He put up tariffs on imports which increased costs for consumers,
He wanted to ban TikTok for outcompeting American companies like FaceBook and Twitter,
He wants to ban electric cars from China because they are expected to outcompete American manufacturers due to quality and being more affordable.

Donald Trump invests in property so he might want the prices of homes and rent to increase

Donald Trump is clearly for the rich. 78% of Americans are living paycheck to paycheck according to Payroll.org
Most can't afford to buy a house and rent is high,

Donald Trump will make these issues worse.
