The US government shutdown that began on 1-October-2025 has finally ended after 40 days. 8 Democrats voted with Republicans to re-open thé government after Republicans agreed on a future vote to extend subsidies on the Affordable Care Act.This has been the longest shutdown in American history. The shutdown began due to disagreements on a budget between Republicans and Democrats. Democrats wanted subsidies on the Affordable Care Act to be continued, Republicans didn’t. There was 60 total votes in favour of opening the government and 40 against it.
