The £ symbol stands for “libra”. It is a Latin term meaning scale or balance. The term pound comes from the Latin term “pondo” which means “weight”. The pound originates as a unit for mass. It is still used in the USA for mass. For example 5lb is pronounced “5 pounds”, the lb stands for libra.

Barack Obama advice: Some of the most successful people in the world are the ones who’ve had most failures, JK Rowling who wrote Harry Potter, her first Harry Potter book was rejected 12 times before it was finally published. Michael Jordan was cut from his high school basketball. He lost 100s of games and missed 1000s of shots during his career but he once said “I have failed over and over and over again in my life, and that’s why I succeed”. These people succeeded because they understood you can’t let their failures define them, you have to let your failures teach you.

JK Rowling got rejected 12 times before she finally wrote and published Harry Potter. Even Beyonce had to write hundreds of songs before she finally wrote Halo. The greatest successes come from having the freedom to fail”
